2024/25 NASTAR SEASON
NASTAR, (National Standard Race), offers recreational racing with a giant slalom format. The course is open to the public and is designed for skiers and riders of all ages and abilities. Participants who score within an appropriate percent of the pacesetter time will win a platinum, gold, silver, or bronze medal right at the finish! It's a great way to test and improve your skills and wage some friendly competition on the slopes. Compare your scores and national ranking, for your age group, with those of other racers throughout the country, by going online to www.nastar.com. Family and friends, ski shops, and ski clubs can also compete as teams by registering in those categories.

NASTAR will begin operating for the season when conditions allow.
Once open for the season NASTAR hours will be Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
The course opens for races at 12pm to 2pm

The Waterville course is located on Exhibition, right in front of the Lodge!
On race days you will see Windsail Flags at the start and finish. Races will be held on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from noon-close.

We highly recommend that you register for free with NASTAR by clicking here.
Registering for NASTAR is free and it includes a subscription to SKI Magazine.
When you register you will be assigned a permanent registration number so there is no need to register each season.
Once you have a number, you will be able to access your NASTAR account to view your race history.
If you already have a NASTAR number, you can access your account by clicking here.
Once you have a NASTAR number, you can use it at the start of any race to simplify the sign in process.

You can sign up and pay at the ticket Window (cash, check, or charge) on the ground floor of the Main lodge, or you can sign up and pay right at the starting gate
(Cash Only) once the race is underway.You can sign up right at the starting gate once the race is underway.
Having a NASTAR number will simplify this process but is not necessary.
Once you have raced, you will be assigned a NASTAR number you can use for future races and set up your NASTAR account.

Waterville Valley Resort is happy to continue hosting the Team Waterville Race League, an 8-week race series of competitions open to everyone, alpine competitors, freeskiers, telemarkers, and recreational skiers & snowboarders. The goal of this league is quite simple, have fun competing with current and newly found friends! Some teams will be competitive while others will be out there just for the fun of it all. No matter your skiing level or equipment type, all are welcome!

Teams consist of 7 racers with a NASTAR style handicap system that ranks all the day’s racers and awards scores to the team’s best 5 racers of the day.
The course location and format change each week (See tentative schedule, courses and locations may change).
Individual times are also kept and posted.
Although all 7 team members are encouraged to compete each week, only the best five scores will be counted.
At least one male and one female must score for each team or the best four scores will be counted.
Racers over the age of seventy are offered first tracks for their first run.

You will be racing with individuals and teams at all skill levels skill levels.
However, each team and individuals will be assigned to a sub league (A-competitive, and B-Recreational) based on performance.
Awards for top three males and females, and top three teams will be awarded for each league.

Individuals are encouraged to register.
Waterville Valley Resort will do its best to either form a team of individual racers or assign the racer to a team needing an individual to complete their roster.
If you cannot be assigned to a team you will be allowed to race independently for fun.

Although all 7 team members are encouraged to compete each week, only the best five scores will be counted.
If you cannot find a substitute, your team can score with those that race, but sorry, no points for you.

The goal of this league is quite simple, have fun competing with current and newly found friends! Some teams will be competitive while others will be out there just for the fun of it all. No matter your skiing level or equipment type, all are welcome!

FAQ’S

The race is a NASTAR Dual GS head-to-head team format with one point given to the team of the racer winning the head-to-head run.
Teams of four (4) will race each week and can be composed of both riders and skiers.
Each team can earn up to 10 points per night (winning each run and fastest male/female – note that it is encouraged to have at least one member of the opposite sex on your team).
Although all teams will compete together, Corporate and Overall Team awards will be presented at the end of the season.

You will be racing with individuals and teams at all skill levels skill levels.
If the number of entered teams permit, the Night Race League will be divided into a minimum of three sub leagues based on skill level.
Your assignment to the skill level league will be determined during a time trial using handicaps based on the NASTAR format. The time trial will be held at the start of the Night Race Series.

Each racers' time will be calculated using the NASTAR handicap system.
The fastest racer in each head-to-head run with the fastest NASTAR time will receive one point for their team.
Teams will switch lanes for the second run and the scoring process will be repeated.
The fastest male and female racers in each league, determined by their NASTAR handicap time for both runs, will receive 1 point for their team.
The total points won by each team will be cumulatively tracked for the season.
The cumulative points for the season will be used to identify the regular season league champion.
To determine the individual male and female champions in each sub league, one point will be awarded to each “fastest” racer each time they win the nights Fastest Male/Female Racer. The racers with he most points at the end to the season will win the individual titles.

Waterville Valley Resort will do its best to either form a team of individual racers or assign the racer to a team needing an individual to complete their roster.
If no team is possible, you will be placed on a list of substitutes available for teams to select.
If you cannot be assigned to a team you will be allowed to race independently for fun if you are not picked up as a substitute.

If you cannot find a substitute, your team can score with those that race, but sorry, no points for you.

No refunds are available if you can be assigned to a team.
If you cannot be assigned to a team and you decide not to participate, you will be given a full refund.

Absolutely! The Freestyle Lounge will be open with full service. We ask everyone remain cognizant of COVID precautions such as masks and social distancing.
There is plenty of room in the Freestyle Lounge, so we do not anticipate having to restrict the total number of individuals allowed into the lounge, though that is always possible.
