Town News

The DPW crew is doing spring maintenance on equipment and putting away the winter sanders and plows (think it might be too early?!).

The Selectboard approved a bid from GMI paving for repairs and resurfacing of Packard Road, West Branch Road and River Road this summer. The repair work will include work on the West Branch bridge. Watch the town website for the work schedule.

Town staff and Selectboard are doing a lot of planning on projects like the Boulder Path repaving and sidewalk work and Snows Mountain Road repaving, water line and sewer line project.

Engineering and planning for the new Wastewater Treatment Plant continues. The Town expects a major report from the town engineer at the beginning of July and will share the plans as they come in.

Town staff, selectboard and planning board are all watching different proposed bills making their way through the New Hampshire legislature’s lawmaking process. There are many different bills which may affect different aspects of the Town.  They include:

    1. Education Funding (HB 739) which would reinstate the Donor/Receiver Town system under the Statewide Education Property Taxes.  Right now, it looks like this bill will remain in committee until the State Supreme Court rules on our appeal of the Rand Case, but we will watch closely to see if the bill moves forward in any other form.

    2. There are multiple bills regarding Land Use and Zoning working their way through both houses of the State Legislature. If these bills pass and the Governor signs them into law, they will make many varied changes to our Zoning Ordinance which the Planning Board will have to address.

    3. The State Budget may also have an impact on various funding sources for the Town.  Changes in these areas could affect the Town’s property tax rate in October.

First quarter water/sewer bills are being prepared and will go in the mail next week.

News from Waterville’s Post Office

Beginning soon, if you need to send an Express Parcel, try to process it before noon daily. The USPS is ending the afternoon pick up of mail at post offices in New England. This means the last truck leaving Campton and surrounding towns will be around 1 p.m. Mail arriving after the mid-day truck won’t be picked up until the following morning. Express mail is no longer overnight either, it is a two-day guarantee. What this means for you, you’ll pay the same amount for express, but it COULD take two days to be delivered. First class mail should be delivered within 5 days. If you need to send express, get it to the Waterville Valley Post Office before noon so Toni and team can make sure they get it on the 1 p.m. truck in Campton. Visit the PO if you have questions.
